'Captain Underpants,' Toni Morrison among most challenged books
Mon Apr 14, 2014
I still remember my mother trying to get Orwell's 1984 pulled from our required reading lists because it was a "bad, Communist book!"..........in 2005. I loved my mother but had to point out to her that the book was about 21 years too late to come true. She still wasn't comfortable with it unti …

Cookie Monster Corrupted by Neo-Nazis to Lure Kids
Tue Apr 8, 2014
I think I would have more faith in the high school students to laugh at the ridiculousness that is a Neo-Nazi Cookie Monster. Perhaps it would would on much younger children but not high school age kids. That being said, bring on the internet memes!

Playboy Must Pay $6 Million to Fired Whistleblower
Thu Mar 6, 2014
In reply to: Susie-630707 #15 Had a similar problem at my old job. After entering the company, I discovered that a "long time" with the company was 2 years. The CEO apparently did not like keeping employees with him over 2 years so, if you made it that long, a target would be painted on you. St …
Note left for female pilot: Cockpit 'no place for a woman'
Wed Mar 5, 2014
In reply to: Victor Vaccaro #175 Exactly. Discrimination is a daily thing in many workplaces. I'm a supervisor to 20 men that frankly think I should be seen and not heard, without a single mote of intelligence to my name. I get asked daily "when are you getting married? when are you having kids …
Comedian live tweets her father's death
Fri Feb 28, 2014
In reply to: Samantha-1008628 #29.4 When my mother was dying very painfully of cancer, there was not much reassuring left to do. My mother knew she was dying, would never get to my brother's wedding nor my college graduation. And I certainly didn't want to hear that "it will get easier" or "she's go …
Don't post my kid's photo on Facebook, parents plead
Tue Feb 18, 2014
While I understand the need to protect the children, some parents go far over into the paranoia category when it comes to online. We have one family member that no one wants to give photos/information to (long story short: he's been written out of the family) so all of us have high security set …
Fake Blood and Blanks: Schools Stage Active Shooter Drills
Fri Feb 14, 2014
I fail to see how this is any different than any other live drill or program involving students, like Every 15 Minutes (drunk driving live program) or Emergency Response Simulations (volunteers of all ages are dressed as casualties/injuries and staged in an emergency situation). Students don't …

Wed Feb 5, 2014
In reply to: Richard Reagan #2 I still agree with Brian P. Evans... If they wanted to talk to you, they would have left a voicemail.
